The new "Forester" demonstrated the continuity of the exterior design, adopting the profile and proportions from the car of the previous generation. At the same time, the lines of the body panels became more embossed and “muscular”, the radiator grille was slightly higher, the window sill line received a smooth bend, the bumpers and headlights changed, and the taillights again “climbed” onto the fifth door (a similar solution was used on the first generation Forester) ). The manufacturer has provided for the car light-alloy aluminum wheels of 17 and 18 inches in three versions.

The Subaru Forester SK was based on the modern SGP (Subaru Global Platform), which was also used in the design Subaru Impreza fifth generation and Subaru XV second generation. It is characterized by increased rigidity and reduced body weight, as well as increased vehicle safety in frontal collisions. With the change of generations, the crossover has grown slightly: the length has increased by 15 mm (up to 4625 mm), the width has increased by 20 mm (1815 mm), and the height has decreased by 5 mm (1730 mm). The wheelbase has added 30 mm and now has 2670 mm. Only ground clearance has not changed - 220 mm.

The “fifth” Subaru Forester has MacPherson struts in front, and a multi-link in the back. Steering rack-and-pinion type with electric booster.

The salon has become more spacious, and the Japanese used better materials in its decoration. Noise isolation has been improved, instead of a handbrake, a compact electric parking brake button with Auto Vehicle Hold function has appeared on the central panel (there is no need to hold the brake pedal when the car has stopped waiting for the start of movement), and the rear doors swing open to a wider angle. The updated multimedia system has enlisted support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications. The navigation system is now based on software from the Dutch company TomTom.

The Forester of the fifth generation arrived in Ukraine in October 2018 with gasoline horizontally opposed fours with a volume of 2.0 liters (150 hp, 196 Nm) and 2.5 liters (184 hp, 239 Nm) from the FB series. The engines, although not new, are seriously upgraded - Subaru announced 80% of new parts in the 2.0-liter unit and 90% of the original components in the 2.5-liter. In addition to this, the compression ratio changed, and direct injection was used instead of distributed injection in the power supply system.

Atmospheric motors are aggregated with a Lineartronic V-chain variator, which has also undergone a deep revision. The gear ratio range has been extended and the overall weight of the structure has been reduced to improve dynamics and reduce fuel consumption. The use of an automatic step speed control system made it possible to reduce the engine noise level during acceleration and acceleration.

Subaru Forester in the maximum configuration received a new off-road control system using a swivel washer. The driver can choose between two modes of off-road electronics: Snow/Dirt (Snow/mud) and D.Snow/Mud (Deep snow/mud). In each case, the system selects the optimal characteristics of the traction control system and the engine management system. In D.Snow/Mud mode, the traction control is disabled and the ECM's torque management system quickly increases traction to its maximum value for confident movement on rough roads.

The main technological “highlight” of the new generation Subaru Forester is the EyeSight driver assistance system, previously inaccessible to the model, and immediately in a modernized version. It includes the following systems and functions:

• Adaptive cruise control;
• Pre-emergency accelerator control system;
• Driver fatigue assessment system;
• Lane keeping assist system.
